Sun provides this capability for quick-turn parts, prototype parts, or small parts with low quantities in volume. Manual machining is quicker than CNC in most cases, though more labor intensive. Standard tolerances of ± .003” or better can be held on most parts depending on configuration. For dimensions with tighter tolerances, manual machining can sometimes a better option because of complex configurations. The machinist can control the rate of cutting by feel and eliminate problems that may occur during automation.
